Offenbach sensationally win the cup in 1970

1. August 1970. Cup final. 50,000 spectators in the Niedersachsenstadion in Hannover – and a day that would change Offenbach forever.

On one side, favourites 1. FC Köln with big names like Wolfgang Overath, Heinz Flohe and Hannes Löhr. On the other side, an Offenbach side that hadn't come just to take part in the final.

The Kickers played with courage, passion and no respect whatsoever. In the 27th minute Klaus Winkler scored the opener, making the Offenbach dream reality for the first time. Köln pushed for the equaliser, but OFC defended with everything they had.

After the break came the next big moment: Horst „Pille“ Gecks made it 2-0. Offenbach was suddenly within touching distance of the cup.

Köln refused to give up and pulled one back through Hannes Löhr to make it 2-1. The closing stages became an all-out battle. Every duel, every last-ditch block and every second brought the Kickers closer to the greatest triumph in their club's history.

Then came the final whistle.

Kickers Offenbach were cup winners.

A triumph against the favourites. A title for the whole city. A moment that remains unforgotten to this day.

Courage. Passion. Cup winners 1970.
